Known fondly by many of her former students, Mrs. Strycula’s classic ham and cheese sandwiches have become the stuff of local legend. Now, you have the chance to enjoy this nostalgic favorite once again while supporting our library programs and community events.

The Delicious Details

• The Sandwich: Freshly made ham and cheese served on a classic Kaiser roll (includes a mustard pack).
• Price: Just $6.00 each!
• Preorder Period: May 18, 2026 – June 4, 2026 (Orders must be placed in advance)
• Pickup Day: Friday, June 12, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Community Tradition & Support

“This fundraiser combines great food, community memories, and support for the library all in one,” library staff shared. “Many people remember Mrs. Strycula’s sandwiches from their school days, and we’re excited to bring that tradition back again for the community.”

A special thank you goes out to Connie Garrigan and Barb Palumbo for organizing this fundraiser, as well as the Emporium Food Mart for generously providing the ingredients. All proceeds from the sale will directly benefit future library programs and community activities.

A New Monthly Tradition Begins: Sloppy Joe Fundraiser Starts January 23

The Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library is excited to introduce a brand-new fundraiser in 2026 — and it comes with a side of comfort food! Our Monthly Sloppy Joe Fundraiser kicks off on Friday, January 23, marking the first year of what we hope will become a favorite community tradition.

On the 4th Friday of each month, stop by the library at 27 W. 4th Street, Emporium beginning at 12:00 PM to pick up Mrs. Strycula’s Sloppy Joes for just $5 per sandwich. Sandwiches will be available until sold out, and no preorders are required — just come hungry.

This fundraiser is an easy (and delicious) way to support the library. All proceeds benefit library programs and services, helping us continue to offer engaging events, educational opportunities, and resources for all ages.

Please note that food is prepared in a non-commercial kitchen.
